Russell - Week 6 Reflection

For today's lesson, Mr Koh did not come so i simply did research. i have done quite a bit on hydroelectricity although we were focusing more on solar energy. Hydroelectricity provides 24% of the world's energy and supply more than 1 billion people with power. The world's hydropower plants out put a combined total of 675,000 megawatts! That is energy equivalent of 3.6 billion barrels of oil. hydropower plants are the United States's largest renewable energy source!
Hydroelectricity power plants are actually based on a rather simple concept - water flowing through a dam turns a turbine, which turns a generator. Some examples of dams are the grand coulee dam in the states, three gorges dam in china, clyde dam in new zealand, llisu dam in turkey.

Next week, i will be touching on the pros and cons of hydroelectricity and the costs.
